Welcome to the first edition of the new quarterly newsletter of the Luxembourg Embassy in India. The aim of this newsletter is to keep you informed about significant news of the Indo-Luxembourg relationship and to highlight a few major developments in Luxembourg that might be of interest to Indian business community, especially those who think about extending their activities in the European market for which Luxembourg is an excellent base. Activities in India
Visit of the Indian Steel Minister to Luxembourg:
Indian Minister of Steel Shri Birender Singh visited Luxembourg on August 29 2016. The Honourable Minister had bilateral discussions with Deputy Vice Minister and Minister of Trade Etienne Schneider, to follow-up on the latter visit to India in March 2016. He also had meetings with the Luxembourg companies Paul Wurth and Arcelor Mittal, both very active on the Indian market. Arcelor Mittal, which is headquartered in Luxembourg, is planning a joint venture with Steel Authority of India (SAIL), which would entail an investment about one billion USD into India regarding high end technology in the automobile sector.

The Grand-duke’s birthday and Luxembourg National Day was celebrated at the Hotel Claridges on 23rd June 2016, honoured by the presence of the Chief Guest H.E. Mr. Amar Sinha, Secretary (Economic Relations) from the Ministry
Economic promotion in Chandigarh:
On June 8th, the LTIO organized a seminar on economic opportunities in Luxembourg in Chandigarh, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industries. It was an opportunity to explore the economic landscape in Chandigarh and to have fruitful discussions with several companies which are interested in the European and Luxembourgish market.
Luxembourg, views from the sky:
After its Indian tour, the photographic exhibition "Luxembourg viewed from the sky” by Rob Kieffer has been packed and is on its way to its next station, Abu Dhabi. The 30 photographs of Luxembourgish landscapes, castles and monuments, taken from a hot-air balloon, have been shown in Delhi first, then by the honorary consuls of Luxembourg in the cities of Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.

Luxembourg to Set up a Seed Fund for Innovative Start-up Companies in the Field of Digital Economy
On July 18th, the Luxembourg Government launched jointly with a group of private investors a seed fund to support the financing and the development of start-ups up to seven years of age which are operating within the national digital economy field. This move is a further step in increasing Luxembourg’s visibility as a hub for launching new innovative activities in one of the key sectors in the country’s economy. The Digital Tech Fund was set-up on the initiative of the Ministry of the Economy as part of the national “Digital Lëtzebuerg” initiative. The main but not exclusive aim of the fund will be to make venture capital investments in companies with projects which have reached the proof of concept stage in fields such as cybersecurity, fintech, big data, digital health, telecommunications and satellite services, or the “Internet of things”.
